Pesticide Use Reporting of Field Fumigant Applications

Back to Regulations to Reduce VOCs by Controlling Field Fumigant Emissions
Back to Pesticide Use Reporting (PUR)

Regulations to reduce emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from fumigant pesticides went into effect in January 2008.

To help DPR track these smog-producing emissions, there are new rules on how field soil fumigations are reported. These rules apply to five “nonattainment areas” (NAAs, map) that do not meet air quality standards for pesticide VOCs: San Joaquin Valley NAA, Sacramento Metro NAA, South Coast NAA, Southeast Desert NAA, and Ventura NAA. In these areas:

  • Pesticide use reports for field fumigations must include the specific method used. The field fumigation method code should be written at the top of the pesticide use reporting form.
  • When field fumigants are used, besides sending the pesticide use report to the County Agricultural Commissioner (CAC), copies must also be sent directly to DPR. This duplicate reporting requirement only applies to field fumigant applications made in 2008.In 2009 and after, computer systems used in the counties will be updated to transfer the information to DPR and it will no longer be necessary to send a copy of the use report to DPR.
