Land use is often the best indicator of the current status and boundaries of endangered species habitats,
particularly in areas with extensive agricultural and/or urban development. The following files show land use
data by county, developed by the California Department of Water Resources. The Adobe Acrobat Reader program
allows users to view the entire map and zoom in on any particular area of interest. To view the entire map from
Adobe Acrobat, open the file and select the "fit in window"
button. Then use the "zoom"
button to view areas
of interest by clicking on the area to zoom in or dragging a particular window. The "pan"
button can help you view different areas of the map without
changing scale. Download the Land Use Legend text file to interpret land use codes.
